George W. Bush Speaks At The Fort Carson Transition Summit

COLORADO SPRINS, Colo. (CBS4) - President George W. Bush was in Colorado Springs on Wednesday for the Fort Carson Transition Summit.

The former president talked to soldiers and families who are leaving the military to start new careers. Those soldiers face unique challenges as they prepare to rejoin civilian life.

He told the group they have a lot to offer.

"Think about it. The pool of talent that has spent time in the military has been through danger, has come out, and are ready to continue to contribute," Bush said.

Veterans advocates say employers should value the traits soldiers learn during their service like leadership and hard work.

Fort Carson starts preparing soldiers for their transition about a year before they leave the military.
