Natural gas leak caused explosion at gas station that injured 2 people, Denver authorities say

A natural gas leak at a gas station led to an explosion that injured two people in Denver late Thursday morning. That's the preliminary result of an investigation by Denver police, firefighters and Xcel Energy.   

It happened at a Shell station at West 5th Avenue and Bryant Street. That's close to the intersection of 6th and Federal Boulevard.

Firefighters say the two people who were hurt were taken to the hospital with what they called "blast and burn" injuries. It's not clear if they were in the building at the time of the blast or outside it.

The building was heavily damaged in the explosion.
