Garage Catches Fire In Sheridan, Grow Operation Discovered

SHERIDAN, Colo. (CBS4) - Investigators are trying to determine how a fire broke out early Friday morning at the garage of a home that had a grow operation inside.

The property is located at 3455 South Bryant Street in Sheridan, just east of 35th and Federal Boulevard.

The emergency call came in at approximately 3:23 a.m. and the building was damaged to the point that the building was deemed unstable.

Crews discovered flames in the garage of the home when they arrived. The garage is a separate building from the home on the property.

Firefighters said they found the marijuana grow operation when they went inside.

They say fighting fires in such setups is difficult because of extension cords and light kits that are often scattered across narrow hallways.

"We need to be really careful with our firefighters that they're not getting themselves into a situation where they aren't going to be able to get themselves out," said Lt. Mike Pylar, a spokesman for the Denver Fire Department.

No one was in the home at the time.

Authorities said it's not clear if the grow operation played any part in the ignition of the fire. They also haven't determined if the building is up to code or if the operation was legal.
