Former Broncos Terrell Davis, John Lynch Passed Over For The Hall Of Fame

DENVER (CBS4) – Former Denver Broncos greats Terrell Davis and John Lynch will have to wait another year for a chance to get in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

The running back and safety missed the cut after the selection committee reduced the list of 15 modern-day finalists. Also cut were kicker Morten Andersen and coaches Don Coryell and Jimmy Johnson.

The newest members will be Junior Seau, Jerome Bettis, Tim Brown, Charles Haley and Will Shields along with Bill Polian, Ron Wolf and senior selection Mick Tingelhof.

Four Broncos are in the Hall: quarterback John Elway (inducted in 2004), tackle Gary Zimmerman (2008), running back Floyd Little (2010) and tight end Shannon Sharpe (2011).

Davis, who spent all eight of his seasons with the Broncos before an injury curtailed his career, is the franchise's all-time leading rusher with 7,607 yards and 60 rushing touchdowns.

His 97.5-yard average in regular season games is fourth in NFL history. In 1998, he ran for 2,008 yards -- fourth-most in league history -- and earned MVP honors that season.

Davis won two Super Bowls and was named the MVP of Super Bowl XXXII, the franchise's first championship.

Lynch collected 1,227 tackles, 13 sacks and 26 interceptions in 15 years -- nine of them Pro Bowl seasons.

He played his last four seasons with the Broncos. He won a Super Bowl in 2003 with Tampa Bay.

A candidate needs 80 percent of the vote from 46 media members to get in.

The induction ceremony is in August at Canton, Ohio.
