Friends Of Teen Killed Remember Him Through Art
DENVER (CBS4)- Friends of a popular middle school student are holding an art show to remember their friend who died last month.
Cole Sukle, 14, was killed July 13 as he rode his bike near McWilliams Park on Yale Avenue near Colorado Boulevard in Denver.
Police say Patricia Livingston, 82, veered into the bike lane and hit Sukle. Livingston died several days later.
Monday, at that same park, friends gathered for an art show, selling paintings they'd created, to raise money for a memorial for Sukle.
"It's been difficult but drawing and creating artwork in his memory has helped us" said Ben Abram.
Rebeca Perez said art was the perfect way to remember their friend.
"Since Cole was an artist, we decided that would be a good way to raise the money," said Perez.
Lauren Reid is also selling her artwork, "I think it's going to be special because of the person we're doing it for. I think that's how all of us feel."
Three friends spearheaded the effort. Each drew something that reminded them of Cole. A splash of yellow can be found in many of the paintings.
"His mom described him as happy and yellow," said Abram.
Cole's mother, Michelle Roach, is grateful for Cole's friends and anxious to support their art show.
"They've gone the extra mile here and are channeling their energy into creating beautiful stuff. Cole loved art," said Roach.
