Foster Families Take Colorado First Lady's 'Breath Away'

DENVER (CBS4) - Five Colorado foster families were honored Saturday for their outstanding commitment to children.

The families attended a special luncheon at the carriage house at the Governor's Mansion. They are parents who open their homes to children in need, providing the basic necessities, but also love and compassion.

CBS4's Kathy Walsh had the honor of emceeing the event once again. Colorado's first lady Robin Pringle Hickenlooper welcomed the group. She said the foster parents and children are the heroes of the state.

"It just takes my breath away what these people do for each other, both the children and the adults," she said. "I mean, they come together and everybody's life is richer."

There are about 2,000 children in foster care in Colorado. The state is always in need of foster homes.
