Fort Collins Screening Of 'The Interview' Sold Out

FORT COLLINS, Colo. (CBS4) - A movie theater in Fort Collins, one of the first in Colorado to release "The Interview," is expecting a sold-out crowd of more than 250 people Thursday night.

Tickets to the Lyric's four screenings sold out late Wednesday, as independent theaters across the country jumped at the chance to debut a big-screen feature after many national movie theater chains decided to cancel.

Sony scrapped Seth Rogen and James Franco's comedy about a plot to kill North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un after hackers made terror threats. Sony decided to release the movie online and in independent theaters.

Management at the Lyric, which is located in Fort Collins' Old Town district, said debate over the film provides an important dialogue regarding free speech.

The Lyric does have a security plan in place and said they also gave police a heads-up, though they are not aware of any specific threats.

Sony also released "The Interview" online. The movie is available on Google Play, YouTube Movies and X-box video. It costs $5.99 to rent it for 48 hours and $14.99 to buy it.
