Fort Collins Police Search For Serial Attacker

FORT COLLINS, Colo. (CBS4)- Investigators in Fort Collins are searching for a man they believe is a serial attacker after seven women were attacked over the past six weeks.

Police say in each case the women were walking alone at night.

In the most recent case, a bicycle ride after the sun went down turned terrifying for a woman Wednesday night.

The Larimer County Sheriff's Office said the woman was physically assaulted along Highway 101 just north of Fort Collins. Her attacker sped away in an older, light-colored SUV that had either older wood paneling or two-tone paint on the sides.

Authorities believe she is the seventh victim in a series of attacks that have happened in Fort Collins all between 7 p.m. and midnight.

In each case the victim described her attacker as a Hispanic man in his 30s with a stocky to muscular build and either short hair or a shaved head.

The knowledge that a man is attacking women has some living in Fort Collins on alert.

"I will definitely try not to go out alone by myself at night as much. Definitely makes me fearful about my safety with my roommates, just living as girls in a college apartment. Definitely going to be on the lookout," said CSU student Kayla Sherman.

Authorities are advising everyone to travel in groups and stay aware of their surroundings. It also is a good idea to carry a cell phone in case of emergency.

Anyone with information about the attacks is urged to call Fort Collins Police.
