Fort Collins Police Officer Shot During Welfare Check, Suspect Killed

FORT COLLINS, Colo. (CBS4) – A Fort Collins police officer was involved in a shooting Sunday afternoon that left a suspect dead.

According to Fort Collins police, an officer responding to a welfare check in the 1000 block of Davidson Drive at approximately 3:35 p.m. discovered an Asian man lying in a stairwell of an apartment complex. The man then shot the officer and the officer returned fire and hit the suspect.

The suspect was transported to a hospital where he died.

The officer was transported to the Medical Center of the Rockies in Loveland with unknown injures. CBS4's Melissa Garcia confirmed the officer was wearing a bullet-proof vest.

The names of the officer and suspect haven't been released.
