Fort Collins Officer Shoots, Injures Man Armed With Knife
FORT COLLINS, Colo. (CBS4) - A 53-year-old man is being treated at the hospital after a police officer shot him when the man allegedly threatened the officer with a knife.
The incident happened early Thursday morning in the parking lot outside the emergency room of the University of Colorado Health's Poudre Valley Hospital, located on the 1000 block of South Lemay Avenue.
Police got an emergency call sometime before 5 a.m. Police said that when the officer arrived the suspect "confronted the officer with the knife." The officer then fired.
An investigation into the shooting is underway and the officer has been placed on paid administrative leave, which is standard procedure in an officer-involved shooting. Authorities haven't said how many shots were fired.
So far the names of the officer and the suspect haven't been released. It's not clear what the suspect's condition is at the hospital.
