Fort Collins Lab Fined For Rabbit Treatment

FORT COLLINS, Colo. (AP) - An animal research facility in Fort Collins has been fined for its treatment of rabbits.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture has fined Red Beast Enterprises about $6,000 for violations related to the care of 24 rabbits.

The USDA says that the company didn't monitor animals "for depth and levels of pain in accordance with standard veterinary practices." Two of the animals died, but the lab did not perform required necropsies.

The fine was issued in July and made public Wednesday.

A call to the research facility was not immediately returned Thursday.
