Fort Carson Soldier's Dog Given Away While At Training

FORT CARSON, Colo. (CBS4)- A soldier from Fort Carson is trying to get his dog back after it was given away while he was training.

Steve Munoz left his German Shepard "Ace" with a friend while he was training at Fort Irwin in California.

He had limited communication and didn't know that Ace escaped out of the dog sitter's yard.

"Some woman saw him on post, saw that he had a collar and brought him in and reported it to the military police," said Munoz.

A kennel located in Fountain has a contract with Fort Carson to take in found animals. The dog sitter tried to get Ace back, explaining that his owner was training.

Since she didn't have ownership documents and Munoz couldn't be reached, Ace was adopted out after five days, per the kennel's policy.

Fort Carson is trying to contact Ace's new owner to see if the dog can be returned to Munoz.
