Former Rocky Ford Officer Testifies In His Murder Trial

LA JUNTA, Colo. (AP) — A former Rocky Ford police officer has testified in the trial in which he is accused of shooting and killing a man he followed into his home.

James Ashby said Monday that events happened very fast the night in 2014 that 27-year-old Jack Jacquez was killed in La Junta. Ashby is on trial for second-degree murder.

Ashby had told investigators he thought Jacquez was a burglar, but officials say the former officer had no reason to believe Jacquez was committing a crime.
