Former Narcotics Officer Charged With Multiple Drug Counts
DENVER (CBS4)- A former police officer has been formally charged with multiple felony drug counts.
Former Narcotics Sergeant Hubert "Marty" Vanover has been charged with possession with intent to manufacture or distribute marijuana or marijuana concentrate, possession of a controlled substance and two counts of possession of marijuana or marijuana concentrate.
The charges are the result of a Denver police investigation that began over the summer following an anonymous complaint of the odor of marijuana coming from a home at 4900 block of S. Field Way.
Vanover, 53, who owns the home, was arrested last week as he was driving by the home while officers were executing a search warrant.
He worked for the Denver Police Department from 1993 until June of 2014 when he was charged with assault for threatening his girlfriend.
A disciplinary letter from the department says he was put on suspension at that time and was ordered not to engage any police activity. He was then caught using his badge at least twice claiming he was investigating a crime when was not.
Vanover was fired soon after.
Vanover has been released from custody on a $2,000 personal recognizance bond and is scheduled to appear in a Denver County courtroom on Oct. 21 to be formally advised of the charges.
