Former Denver Nugget Guard Ty Lawson Sentenced

DENVER (CBS4)- Former Denver Nuggets guard Ty Lawson was sentenced on Tuesday for a DUI case that occurred last year.

Lawson, 29, was sentenced Tuesday morning to one year of probation with monitored sobriety, 48 hours of community service, 52 hours of alcohol education and treatment and he must attend a victim impact panel.

Lawson must pay fines and court costs of $1,571.

Lawson was stopped Jan. 23 in the 3400 block of Park Avenue West after he was observed driving 60 mph in a 35 mph zone and passing another vehicle.

He was arrested when the officer who stopped him noted slurred speech, stumbling and the odor of an alcoholic beverage.

The Indiana Pacers signed the point guard earlier this year despite his troubled past.

In January, when Lawson was with the Houston Rockets, Lawson was suspended for three games without pay for a drunken-driving case in California.
