Former Death Row Inmate Accused Of Chaining Up Woman, Raping Her For Months
GATEWAY, Colo. (CBS4) - A former death row inmate has been arrested once again -- this time for alleged sexual assault.
Former Texas inmate Claude Lee Wilkerson, 61, was freed nearly 30 years ago. Now he's accused of kidnapping and sexually assaulting a homeless woman in Gateway, a ranching town near Grand Junction in Mesa County.
The Grand Junction Daily Sentinel reports investigators say Wilkerson kept the woman chained up in his home for months and repeatedly assaulted her with the help of a runaway teenager.
Wilkerson remains in the Mesa County Jail on a $1 million cash bond.
