Former Colorado Police Officer Sentenced For Assault

GEORGETOWN, Colo. (AP) — A former police officer in central Colorado has been given a probationary sentence after pleading guilty to assaulting a man he arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.

Jon Geiger pleaded guilty July 10 to misdemeanor harassment for the October 2016 assault on a Georgetown man he arrested.

Court records say Geiger was completing paperwork when the victim entered an unlocked holding cell and began banging the door open and shut. Jail cameras showed Geiger forcibly removed the man from the holding cell and placed him in a wrist lock against the wall.

Judge Cynthia Jones gave Geiger a 60-day suspended jail sentence and placed him on probation for a year. She said the conviction meets a prosecution goal that Geiger no longer be able to work as a peace officer in Colorado.
