Former Colorado College Coach Takes Reins Of USHL's Stampede

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) — The Sioux Falls Stampede has named former longtime Colorado College head coach Scott Owens as coach and general manager of the United States Hockey League franchise.

The 59-year-old Owens succeeds Cary Eades, who left after three seasons to become head coach and general manager of the USHL's Fargo Force.

Owens is a Wisconsin native who was a goaltender for Colorado College in the late 1970s and later spent 15 years as head coach at the school, beginning in 1999. He resigned in April 2014.

Owens led Colorado College to seven appearances in the NCAA tournament, including a trip to the Frozen Four in 2005. He coached two Hobey Baker Award winners. He is the winningest coach in Colorado College history, with a 324-228-54 record.
