Former Colorado Attorney General John Suthers To Be Next Mayor Of Colorado Springs

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (CBS4) - Former Colorado Attorney General John Suthers will be the next mayor of Colorado Springs.

Unofficial results have Suthers claiming 68 percent over former mayor Mary Lou Makepeace, who had 32 percent of the vote with approximately 95 percent of the votes counted.

Suthers had been Colorado's attorney general since 2005 until last year. He was born in Denver but grew up in Colorado Springs. He also served two terms as district attorney in Colorado Springs.

"I'll immediately meet with council and I'll begin discussions about what are we going to do about our infrastructure problems," Suthers said Wednesday morning, according to KKTV. "This is a very serious problem that needs to be addressed, all the input I got from voters indicate it's what they care most about."

Colorado's new attorney general is Cynthia Coffman.

Suthers will be sworn into office on June 2.
