Forest Service Sets Christmas Tree Cutting Dates In Colorado

LAKEWOOD, Colo. (AP) - The U.S. Forest Service is planning to open five Christmas tree cutting areas along the Front Range next month.

Areas on the Pike, Arapaho and Roosevelt national forests will be open for cutting between Dec. 6 and Dec. 14. A $10 permit per tree is required before entering a tree cutting area, with a limit of five permits per person.

Dan Jiron, regional forester for the Rocky Mountain Region, says the program gives people "an opportunity to take part in managing their own national forests and is a great activity for getting children out into the natural world."

The areas that will be opened are near Fraser, Red Feather Lakes, Buffalo Creek, South Park and Rampart Range Road near Woodland Park.
