Footsteps In Snow Lead To Arrest In Englewood Smash & Grabs

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (CBS4) - Two businesses were hit by a smash-and-grab burglar Friday morning, but this time it ended with an arrest.

Police responded to a strip mall in the 3700 block of South Broadway at approximately 2:30 a.m. where a computer repair store and Asian restaurant had both been hit by a burglar.

Tracks in the snow led police to the apartment of the suspect. Police said the tracks match what they saw at another smash-and-grab incident earlier in the morning.

A man was arrested at his apartment, and police are awaiting a warrant to enter.

There was no cash in the restaurant but the suspect stole numerous electronics from the repair store, about $4,000 worth of cellphones and a tablet. It will take about three months of business to make up for what was stolen.

Owners of both the Asian restaurant and repair store say they had been hit before, and are glad to see that someone is in custody.

"I feel safe now, I really feel safe," said store owner Mike Tehranifard.

Police are working to determine if the suspect is connected to more than a dozen recent smash and grabs across the Denver metro area.

The owner of a beauty salon said the thief broke through the door and stole $800 worth of beauty products.

"You feel vulnerable that someone broke in," said Stacy Kelly. "I was just thankful that no one was hurt."

Investigators have not said whether more suspects may be arrested in connection to this case or the others.
