Fireworks May Have Scared Fawn That Was Rescued Struggling In Deep Water

LA PLATA COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4) - Emergency crews in La Plata County got a pat on the back after saving the life of a young fawn seen struggling in deep water in Vallecito Lake on Friday.

According to the Upper Pine River Fire Protection's Facebook page, medics found the fawn "floating in the lake and turned it over to Medic 62 to treat it for hypothermia."

Upper Pine River Protection District Chief Bruce Evans told the Durango Herald wildlife is sometimes spooked by fireworks and end up in the water.

Crews took boats out and pulled the animal to safety.

The fawn is now in the care of the Humane Society.
