Fired Berthoud Officer Sentenced To Work Release, Probation
BERTHOUD, Colo. (CBS4) - A fired Berthoud police officer will spend his nights in jail for one month for the way he treated his daughter.
Jeremy Yachik was arrested last October after his ex-girlfriend sent authorities a video of him striking his daughter. He ended up pleading guilty to one misdemeanor count of allowing a child to placed in a situation where she could be injured. By doing that he avoided a trial.
Yakich apologized for what happened in an interview with CBS4 on Monday.
"What was on the video was inappropriate and was not the way I should have handled that situation," he said.
A judge sentenced him on Monday to one month of work release and three years on probation.
Berthoud's former police chief turned in his resignation after he was investigated for his handing of the Yachik situation, and the Berthoud Police Department has now been disbanded. The Larimer Sheriff now handles the duties.
"I am heartbroken over that. It definitely didn't deserve to be disbanded," Yakich said.
