Fire Forces Some Evacuations In Southern Colorado
WALSENBURG, Colo. (AP) — Officials say a 15-acre wildfire in Huerfano County has forced some evacuations in a southern Colorado subdivision.
Huerfano County Office of Emergency Management spokeswoman Lori Cordova said Sunday that only about three structures are near the fire, which is burning in the Blackhawk subdivision about 10 miles west of Interstate 25 on northwest side of Four Mile Canyon Road.
She says it's unknown how many homes or residents are affected but that only one structure is threatened by the growing fire. She says no damage has been reported.
Fifteen engines and 3 water tenders are battling the blaze reported at 12:39 p.m. Sunday. Cordova says a single engine air tanker dropped retardant.
She says the fire is zero percent contained and a cause isn't yet known.
The county community center opened to take in evacuees.
