Fire At Scrap Metal Pile Outside Pueblo Is Out

PUEBLO, Colo. (AP) — A fire in a huge scrap metal pile just outside Pueblo is out.

The fire at American Iron and Metal in eastern Pueblo County was reported at 3 a.m. Sunday and was put out by firefighters by 8 p.m.

Pueblo County sheriff's spokeswoman Laurie Kilpatrick says the cause of the fire isn't known.

The fire produced heavy smoke, prompting health officials to warn residents of the Salt Creek neighborhood to keep their windows and doors closed while at home. They also asked those with respiratory problems to leave the area.

Kilpatrick says the smoke was never deemed toxic.
