'Fill The Mayflower' Helps Military Families

AURORA, Colo. (CBS4)- Those thinking ahead to the holidays now have a way to help those who have served the country.

Volunteers are collecting food to ensure that all military families in Colorado have a happy Thanksgiving.

"Homefront Heroes, we're an all-volunteer 501c3 and our focus is support for military and veterans in need, " said Homefront Heroes Director Linda Olson.

This weekend Homefront Heroes hopes to fill up a Mayflower moving van at the Albertson's at Buckley and Mississippi.

"We're little guys. We don't have big television stations behind us or anything, big sponsors and we really are focused on a population that people aren't even aware of and that is young enlisted families attached to Buckley Air Force Base and these families don't make a lot of money and the non-military spouse typically cannot get a job outside the home that will make up the difference, child care is so expensive, so it's our way of giving back to those who give so much," said Olson.

Non-perishable food and cash donations can be dropped off for Fill the Mayflower at the Albertson's store located at Buckley & Mississippi through Sunday from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m.
