'Felony Stupid' Banana-Carrying Man Will Face Misdemeanor

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (CBS4) - A man who faced a felony charge for pointing a banana at deputies will face less severe charges.

Nathan Channing, 27, will face a misdemeanor charge of obstructing a peace officer instead of the more serious counts of felony menacing.

"I decided while Mr. Channing's conduct was felony stupid, it didn't really deserve a felony charge, so we have filed one count of a misdemeanor obstructing a police officer. I think that's what fits best with his incredibly dumb conduct," Mesa County District Attorney Pete Hautzinger said, according to KREX.

Deputies say they thought the banana that Channing allegedly waved at them was a gun.
