Fatal Wreck Claims Student Athlete In Kremmling

KREMMLING, Colo. (CBS4) - A 16-year-old student athlete from Kremmling never made it home from football practice Tuesday night.

Law-enforcement found his vehicle on the side of Highway 40 at approximately 7:30 p.m., according to the Colorado State Patrol.

John David "J.D." Guess reportedly lost control on the icy road and rolled several times. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A CSP spokesperson said drugs and alcohol are not factors, and the driver was wearing a seat belt. Speed is being investigated as a possible factor in the crash.

According to law-enforcement the family is well known in Grand County, and as news spreads of his death today the local high school has grief counselors on hand.
