Family, Dog Survive 2-Alarm Apartment Fire

AURORA, Colo. (CBS4)- A family and their dog escaped their burning apartment in Aurora on Tuesday morning.

A fire broke out at the Abrigo Apartments near 30th and Peoria about 9:45 a.m. on Tuesday and quickly escalated into a two-alarm fire.

Firefighters said the fire was caused by a 4-year-old using a lighter.

The family inside was able to escape.

"I couldn't get the dog, I just got the baby and the firefighter brought her out about 15 minutes later still wiggling," said the woman who lived in the apartment.

Their dog was rescued from the apartment and received oxygen from first responders. "Princess" is expected to be okay.

Another dog rescued from the apartment was taken to the emergency veterinarian. It is unclear how serious those injuries are.

One police officer was treated for smoke inhalation.
