The soldiers are part of the 3rd Armored brigade, 4th Infantry Division. They've been deployed for nine months in Southwest Asia helping with military operations in the area.

"I've been anticipating this day. Can't wait to spend time with my family, my little son, and I'm just going to really love being home," said Fisher.

Alison agreed.

"Amazing. I'm never letting him out of sight. Glad to have him back home again," she said.

The soldiers are part of several thousand soldiers returning to Fort Carson over the next few weeks -- mostly from Kuwait. Chief Warrant Officer Ian Giessler told CBS4's Tom Mustin the people at home are the real heroes.

"I'm grateful to my wife for taking care of everything, the girls, working and holding it all together," Giessler said.

And as flags and cheers waved at a happy homecoming, joyous families gave thanks to the brave men and women who are back home after a job well done.

"I'm very proud of him.," Giessler's wife Olga said.

Approximately 3,000 troops from the brigade will be coming back home to Fort Carson by mid-November.
