Express Lane tolls in Northern Colorado take effect in April

Tolls for part of the express lane in Northern Colorado will take effect soon, and the warning period for weaving violations will begin.

Starting April 7, tolling begins in the 14-mile-long express lane between Berthoud and Fort Collins. According to the Colorado Department of Transportation, drivers will pay between $1 and $4.75 per segment depending on the location and time of day.

"For example, a driver using all three segments — northbound or southbound —  from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m., when toll rates are lowest, would pay a minimum of $3 for the whole trip, while a driver using all three segments from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. and traveling northbound would see the highest trip price at $12.20," said CDOT.

They added that drivers without an ExpressToll pass would also pay more.

Prices will be displayed on overhead signs.

Also beginning April 7, drivers who weave over the solid lines in the express lane will receive warnings by mail. Drivers can enter and exit the express lane only at spots marked by a dashed line.

The warning period will end on May 7, at which point drivers will be fined for crossing solid lines in the express lane. The bill will be sent to the registered vehicle owner using license plate billing. The fine for crossing the solid line is $75 and increases to $150 if unpaid within 20 days.
