DA: Officers Justified In Shooting Man In Evans

EVANS, Colo. (AP) - Three officers who shot and killed an armed man in Evans won't face criminal charges.

In a decision released Wednesday, District Attorney Michael Rourke says the officers were justified in shooting 37-year-old Luke Miller of Wheat Ridge on Feb. 25 to protect themselves.

According to a summary of the investigation released by the district attorney, Miller fired at an Evans officer who had ordered him to stop. Later, three other officers caught up with Miller. Investigators say he yelled "Kill me" and began to raise his handgun toward two of them when they all fired a total of 14 rounds.

The coroner found that Miller, who was wanted for violating parole, was high on methamphetamine at the time and that may have contributed to the events leading up to the shooting.
