Wildfire burns near Carter Lake in Northern Colorado, evacuations lifted

Home destroyed by fast-moving wildfire in Colorado

Evacuations were lifted in Northern Colorado near Carter Lake on Monday afternoon for a wildfire that burned one house. According to the Larimer County Sheriff's Office, the Hertha Lake Fire was burning near County Road 23 and County Road 31.

The sheriff's office posted on X that County Road 8E was closed at County Road 23 westbound due to the wildfire. The public was urged to avoid the area.  

The smoke was visible from as far as Greeley and Fort Collins.

The CBS Colorado First Alert Meteorologists have called Monday a First Alert Weather Day for high fire danger. Red Flag Warnings have been issued for the I-25 corridor and into the plains, including the Denver metro area, for strong wind gusts.
