Man Accused Of Shooting Wife Who Tried To Keep Him From Driving Drunk

DENVER (CBS4) - A man accused of shooting his wife during an argument has been formally charged.

According to Lynn Kimbrough with the district attorney's office, Eric D. Smith, 38, has been charged with attempted second-degree murder, first-degree assault, and second-degree assault.

The alleged incident occurred last weekend near Lowry Boulevard and Quebec Street.

"Smith and the victim were arguing in their car over whether or not he should be driving, as he had allegedly been drinking," Kimbrough said in a statement. "The charges allege that Smith shot the victim several times causing serious bodily injury."

Smith remains in custody on a $50,000 bond. He's scheduled to appear in court on Thursday to be advised of the charges.
