Emergency Rockfall Mitigation Closes Highway 8 Between C-470 & Morrison

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4)- Emergency rockfall mitigation will begin on Friday evening on Highway 8 which will close the road in Morrison for about an hour.

The Colorado Department of Transportation will perform the emergency rockfall mitigation starting at 5 p.m. Friday which will result in the closure of Highway 8 or Morrison Road west of C-470 to Market Street in Morrison.

The rock hazard is the size of a small vehicle and wet weather combined with fluctuating temperatures are likely the cause of instability.

"We are stewards of public safety on our roadways, which is why we take situations like this extremely seriously," Paul Jesaitis, CDOT Region 1 Transportation Director, said in a statement. "Luckily, our mitigation efforts will require only a short closure, which will lessen impacts to motorists in the area."
