Elway Brushes Aside Suggestions He Enter Politics

DENVER (AP) — Former Denver Broncos quarterback John Elway is brushing aside suggestions that he enter politics.

Elway, who identifies himself as a Republican, said in an interview broadcast on Fox News on Sunday that he thinks politics might be a tougher business than football, so "I'll stay on the outside of that."

He says he has been asked a couple of times to run for office, but he prefers to play a supportive role for Republican candidates. Elway, who is now a Broncos executive, threw his support behind presidential candidate Mitt Romney in 2012, saying that in tough economic times, the country needs a president who understands how to get America working again.

He also introduced Romney during a campaign stop in Denver.
