The phasing out process will take place over the next few weeks.

The new shuttles are red and have air conditioning, an upgrade over the current buses. RTD has ordered 36 of the new shuttles.

"We will charge them at night and we will run them all day," said RTD spokeswoman Tina Jaquez. "They also have air conditioning, which is a change from our existing fleet."

The buses that are being replaced are have more than 200,000 miles on them. Many have been running the free shuttle route, which runs up and down 16th Street from Union Station to Civic Center Station, for the past 16 years.

The new buses will be shown to the public at Skyline Park at 11 a.m.
