Elderly Man Accused Of Causing Death Of Motorcycle Officer

GOLDEN, Colo. (CBS4) – An 83-year-old man has been arrested in connection with an accident that claimed the life of a motorcycle officer.

According to Jefferson County District Attorney's Office, Kenneth Martin Hosch, 83, of Golden, was arrested on suspicion of vehicular homicide and criminally negligent homicide for causing the death of Jefferson County Sheriff's Sgt. Dave Baldwin.

The crash occurred on Jan. 26. According to court records, Hosch was driving southbound on Highway 93 approaching 68th Avenue.

"Hosch was traveling at a high rate of speed when he drove up behind a car which was traveling southbound directly in front him. He passed this car in an aggressive manner," Pam Russell with the district attorney's office said in a statement.

Russell said Hosch remained in the wrong lane after he passed the vehicle.

"Multiple witnesses observed Hosch driving on the wrong side of the road at a high rate of speed."

Russell said Hosch's vehicle struck Baldwin on his motorcycle head on.

"Baldwin died of injuries sustained in the collision."

Witnesses said they estimate that Hosch was traveling at 70 to 79 miles per hour.

Hosch's bond has been set at $10,000.
