El Paso, National Guard Practice Blizzard Response

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) — Emergency management officials are practicing their rescue plans in the event of a major blizzard across northern El Paso County.

The county Office of Emergency Management is conducting an exercise called "Deep Freeze 16" on Saturday. The exercise includes the National Guard, fire departments, ambulances and rescue shelters.

About 400 people are taking part. Some will be acting as stranded motorists and others who might need rescuing.

Similar exercises will be taking place in Alamosa and Evans.
