Egg Donation Helps Metro Area Food Banks

DENVER (CBS4)- The Easter holiday weekend is quickly approaching and the Colorado Egg Producers Association made a big donation to help those in need.

The group donated 250,000 eggs to metro area food banks. Most of the eggs were donated to the Food Bank of the Rockies in Denver.

The donation was celebrated with an omelette flipping contest and event for some children at local daycare centers.

In addition to some wonderful omelettes, they were also treated to a visit by a giant egg who helped them learn about the nutritional value of eggs.

"So many people give around the holidays, around Christmas, and they don't realize shelves here at the food bank go really low at this time of year. So just in time for Easter, we're filling the shelves with all these high quality protein eggs," said Colorado Egg Producers Association spokesman Jerry Wilkins.

This is the eighth year in a row the Egg Producers Association has made the donation which helps more than 650,000 people who are at risk of hunger in Colorado.
