Easter Bunny Experience Caters To Children With Special Needs

AURORA, Colo. (CBS4) - The Town Center at Aurora features an Easter Bunny experience for children and families, but Sunday morning the experience was a little different -- it catered to children with special needs.

At Sunday's Easter Bunny experience the lights were lower, the music was off, and the lines were non-existent. But one thing was still the same -- a happy child, like 3-year-old George.

"They will take time with the kids so he can one-on-one with the bunny," George's mother Cherita Whitley said.

The subdued experience catered to children who have special needs like Iliana and David who fall on the autism spectrum.

"They get to meet other kids similar to them, so it's very, very fun," mother Isabel Garcia said.

From the lighting, to the quieter setting, to the Easter Bunny character, the Noerr program is designed to give each child a positive Easter Bunny experience.

"This is his first time with the bunny, taking pictures and teaching him the meaning of Easter and stuff like that," Whitley said.

Families hope that as we learn more about autism and raise awareness, more events like it will start happening across the country.

"I am very thankful for this program, I think it awesome, and I wish there was more programs like this," Garcia said.
