DU Students, Faculty Walk Out For 'Climate Justice'
DENVER (CBS4)- On Monday morning dozens of students and faculty members at the University of Denver walked out to protest what they claim is the Trump administration's climate change denial.
The students and faculty gathered on campus and carried signs that read "Divest."
The group called Divest DU called on DU Chancellor Chopp and the board of trustees to divest the university's endowment from the fossil fuel industry in order to combat climate change.
Simon Lomax, spokesperson for Divestment Facts sent CBS4 this statement: "There are more than 11,000 students at DU and just a handful of them walked out of class today. That tells you the fossil-fuel divestment campaign, which is run by 350.org in New York, has almost no traction with DU students at all. We hope DU sees through the 350.org divestment campaign. It's a costly political stunt that will hurt DU students and faculty without doing anything – on campus or off campus – to lower carbon emissions."
