DU Men's Lacrosse Prepares For Season With High Expectations

DENVER (CBS4) - The Denver Pioneers men's lacrosse team is the No. 1 ranked team in all three preseason polls.

The Pioneers made it to the NCAA semifinals last year and the team has three All-Americans returning.

Head coach Bill Tierney said the No. 1 ranking is nice to have as they prepare for the season, but finishing the season with that ranking is the goal.

"If we start worrying about 'Protecting No. 1' or 'They're going to be out to get us' or any of that stuff, or the cliches of 'It doesn't matter until the end of the year' then we are just like everybody else," he said. "We've just embraced it. We'll probably lose a lacrosse game or two along the way.

"And the idea certainly is to be No. 1 at the end of the year."
