Drug Access By Terminally Ill Under Review
DENVER (AP) - Colorado is the latest state considering real-life "Dallas Buyers Club" legislation.
A Colorado House committee starts work Thursday on a proposal to allow terminally ill people access to drugs that are still completing clinical trials and haven't been approved by the U.S. Food & Drug Administration.
Similar proposals are pending in several states. Some doctors strongly oppose so-called "Right To Try" legislation. They say it could bypass important safeguards.
Supporters point out that doctors would still have sign off on the use of an investigational product.
"Dallas Buyers Club" is a film about a determined AIDS patient who smuggled treatments from Mexico because they weren't cleared for use in the United States.
No vote is planned Thursday in Colorado.
