Drivers Enter Cone Zone At Arapahoe & I-25

GREENWOOD VILLAGE, Colo. (CBS4)- The Colorado Department of Transportation will begin construction at the interchange of Interstate 25 and Arapahoe Road on Monday evening.

For the next few weeks, crews will re-stripe and realign lanes as well as set up concrete barriers and temporary lighting.

The plan includes a total replacement of the overpass over I-25. There will be lane closures starting Monday overnight into Tuesday morning.

In 2005 CDOT said an average of 201,000 vehicles traveled north and south on I-25 in the area of Arapahoe Road. Just a little more than a decade later, that number has grown to 323,000 with more than 100,000 getting off the interstate onto Arapahoe Road daily.

CDOT is banking on improvements to the I-25 ramps to help prevent backups.

Drivers will need to get used to new lane configurations because the work will continue until 2018. The project cost $66 million.
