Driver Shot After Pulling Over, Trying To Help Other Driver

RIFLE, Colo. (CBS4) - A driver on Colorado's Western Slope is recovering from serious injuries after he says he was shot by someone he was trying to help over the weekend.

The incident happened early Saturday morning on Highway 13, about 9 miles north of the town of Rifle.

Officials with the Garfield County Sheriff's office said the man was fired on after he pulled over to try to help the person or people who were in their car on the side of the road. The car had its flashers on.

The victim's name has not been released but police said he is 31. His injuries were severe enough that after driving himself to a bowling alley in Rifle, he was taken to a hospital by ambulance and then flown to a hospital in Grand Junction by helicopter.
