Driver From Texas Pulled Over With 21 Pot Plants In Truck

ELBERT COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4)- A man visiting from Texas was pulled over with 21 marijuana plants in the back of his truck. He told the Elbert County Sheriff's deputy that he purchased them in a restaurant parking lot.

The man was stopped while driving on Highway 86 in Elbert County on Friday afternoon. Mr. Garcia told the deputy he was visiting from Dallas.

When the deputy asked about his cargo, Garcia told him that he had paid cash for the 21 pot plants.

After the encounter, Elbert County put out a tourism tip that included this advice: "We encourage you to visit our beautiful state and take advantage of all that Mother Nature has to offer. We have 300 days of sunshine a year and know that you will thoroughly enjoy your visit. However, if you choose to purchase 21 marijuana plants in a restaurant parking lot the criminal penalties resulting in felony charges will make the visit a negative one to say the least. Although the deputies will provide three meals a day, your room has no view and there are no amenities."
