Driver Charged With Striking Bike Patrol Officer Appears In Court

DENVER (CBS4) - The trial is going forward for the man charged in crash that sent a Denver police officer to the hospital for months.

Officer John Adsit was on his bike accompanying students back to East High School in early December when he was hit.

Christopher Booker is charged with vehicular assault, attempting to influence a public servant and forgery. He waived his preliminary hearing in Denver court on Monday.

Police originally said Booker suffered from a medical condition at the time of the crash, but prosecutors say Booker either lied or gave incorrect information to the Colorado Division of Motor Vehicles to keep his license.

After the accident Booker told CBS4 in an interview that he didn't remember the accident because he suffered from a seizure. Booker said his seizure was the fourth he had suffered in recent years — but that he had never had one behind the wheel of a car before.

Adsit left Craig Hospital in the middle of February but has undergone additional hospital procedures since then.

Booker's next court appearance is scheduled for July 16.
