Dozens Of Malnourished Australian Cattle Dog Mixes Rescued From Penrose Home
PENROSE, Colo. (CBS4) - A Penrose resident faces animal cruelty charges after more than three dozen malnourished and dehydrated dogs were found in her home.
Demaris "Dee" Chess, 58, faces 37 counts of misdemeanor animal cruelty.
Several of the dogs were only puppies, according to the Fremont County Sheriff's Office.
Most of the dogs are Australian cattle dog mixes.
"This is an unfortunate situation that the owner had the opportunity to correct. She chose to ignore the needs of her animals and therefore our agencies had to provide for them," Colorado Humane Society investigator Bret Smith said in a statement.
The dogs were treated at the home for dehydration and then taken to two area animal shelters to be cared for and then put up for adoption. Two of the dogs are now ready to be adopted from the Denver Dumb Friends League.
