Dog Owner Whose Pet Was Killed By Police: 'Like A Bad Dream'

ERIE, Colo. (CBS4)- Four years after her dog was shot and killed, Ava's owner has reached a settlement with the Erie Police Department.

Brittany Moore sued the police department after an officer shot and killed her German Shepard Ava in May 2011.

Moore had called police for help after receiving a threatening phone call.

Erie Police Officer Jamie Chester responded to the home and then wound up shooting and killing the family dog.

"I will never forget the sound Ava made when she was shot. It was just like a bad dream and it's something that will never go away," said Moore.

Moore also spearheaded efforts to pass a new law requiring officer training on how to better deal with dog encounters.
